North Shore Physio had a problem that's more common than most clinic owners realise. They were getting traffic — decent organic search traffic, a handful of Google referrals each month — but almost none of it was converting to bookings.
When they ran through our website audit checklist, they scored a 9 out of 12. Nine problems. The biggest? Their only call to action was "book an appointment." No way to capture the 80% of visitors who weren't ready to book immediately. No email list. No follow-up. Just a booking button and a silent exit.
Two months after we fixed that — with a single lead magnet and a 5-email welcome sequence — they had 200 email subscribers and 8 new recurring patients. None of them had heard of the clinic before finding it online.
Here's exactly how it worked.
WHY "BOOK NOW" ISN'T ENOUGH
Think about the last time you searched for a health professional you'd never used before. Did you book immediately? Or did you look around, read a bit, maybe check a few options, and come back later — or not at all?
Most people fall into the second category. They're at an awareness or consideration stage — interested, but not quite ready to commit. And for a physiotherapy clinic specifically, the barrier is even higher. People are making a decision about their physical health. They need to trust you before they'll book.
If your website only offers "book now" — you're only capturing the small percentage who are already decided. Everyone else leaves, and without an email address, you have no way to reach them again.
Research consistently shows that around 80% of website visitors aren't ready to buy or book on their first visit. A lead magnet funnel captures that 80% before they leave — and an email sequence nurtures them until they are ready. Without it, you're permanently losing 4 out of every 5 potential patients.
THE LEAD MAGNET THAT WORKED
We could have built any number of lead magnets for North Shore Physio. A general "physiotherapy guide," a clinic newsletter, a discount offer. All of these would have performed poorly — because none of them are specific enough to attract the right person.
Instead, we built something that spoke directly to the clinic's most common patient type: people with chronic back pain who had been managing it themselves and weren't sure whether professional help was necessary.
The lead magnet: "The Back Pain Self-Assessment: 5 Questions That Tell You Exactly What's Causing Your Pain — and Whether You Need Professional Help."
Three things made this title work:
It's specific. Not "back pain guide" — a self-assessment with a specific number of questions and a specific type of result. Specificity converts.
It uses the word "self-assessment." This is a clinical word. It signals expertise without being intimidating, and it positions the clinic as an authority before the visitor has even opted in.
It addresses the real hesitation. "Whether you need professional help" directly handles the objection most back pain sufferers have — they're not sure it's bad enough to see someone. The lead magnet answers that question, which is exactly why they opt in.
THE FULL FUNNEL STRUCTURE
The lead magnet alone isn't a funnel. The funnel is everything that happens from first click to booked appointment. Here's what we built:
WHAT MADE THE EMAILS ACTUALLY WORK
Most business email sequences fail for the same reason: they're too salesy too soon. They deliver the resource in email 1 and pitch the service in email 2. The recipient hasn't built any relationship yet — why would they book?
The sequence we built for North Shore Physio followed a different structure. Emails 2, 3, and 4 didn't sell anything. They taught something genuinely useful — the kind of insight you'd normally only get in a consultation. This did two things: it demonstrated expertise, and it made patients feel like they already knew and trusted the clinic before they ever walked through the door.
By email 5, the pitch felt like a natural next step — not a cold sell from a stranger.
HOW TO REPLICATE THIS FOR YOUR PRACTICE
The specific lead magnet and email sequence will need to be adapted for your speciality, your location, and your ideal patient. A sports physio will need a different hook than a post-natal specialist. But the underlying structure is the same:
Step 1: Identify your most common patient type and their main hesitation before booking. Build your lead magnet around resolving that hesitation.
Step 2: Build a single-purpose landing page. No navigation. One goal: the email address.
Step 3: Write 5 emails. Deliver first, teach second and third, prove fourth, pitch fifth. Don't rush it.
Step 4: Drive traffic with what you already have. Google Business Profile, your existing homepage, your Instagram bio link. You don't need paid ads to start seeing results.
The whole system, built properly, typically takes 5–7 days to go live. And once it's live, it runs on autopilot — capturing and nurturing leads while you're busy treating patients.
